Common Types of Personal Injury Cases

Motor vehicle accidents

Motor vehicle accidents are one of the most common types of personal injury cases. Millions of Americans are injured in vehicle accidents each year. These accidents can cause severe injuries or even death. Motor vehicle accidents can be caused by automobiles, motorcycles, or commercial trucks. An individual can be injured while driving another vehicle, on foot, or even on a bicycle.

Workplace injuries

Everyone deserves a safe place to work. If you were injured while working, your employer may be liable if they failed to meet the requirements to provide a safe work environment. You may have been told that the only way to receive compensation from a workplace injury is through worker's compensation, but this isn't always the case. Worker's compensation payouts can be small and often will not cover the full extent of your losses. When an entity or individual other than your employer is at fault for your injury, you may seek compensation through a third party lawsuit.

Defective products

Defective or dangerous products are the cause of thousands of injuries in the United States each year. Defective products can often cause very severe injuries, and exposure to these products can happen in many types of situations. The manufacturers of these products have a duty to issue adequate warnings to customers. The law requires that the product meet the ordinary expectations of the consumer. When a product has an unexpected defect or danger, you may be able to bring a lawsuit against the manufacturer, the designer, the manufacturer of parts, someone who modified any parts, or the wholesale or retail seller.

Falls

"Slip and fall" cases involve instances where an individual slips or trips due to unsafe conditions on someone else's property. Property owners are required to keep their property well lit and maintained appropriately. If the property owner fails to do this, and an individual is injured due to an uneven sidewalk, slippery floor, or other unsafe condition, the property owner may be held liable for the injury.

Dog Bites

Dog bites can cause extremely painful physical and emotional injuries. An individual that has been bitten by a dog may not only have physical scars that last their entire life, they often have psychological damage as well, such as developing a fear of dogs. If you have been bitten by a dog you may be able to file a lawsuit against the owner of the dog to receive compensation for your injuries.

Construction injuries

Construction sites can be a very dangerous place to work, walk by, or visit. Hundreds of thousands of people are injured each year due to the dangerous conditions of construction sites. The construction company has a responsibility to keep their site safe. The construction company may be liable for your injury if it was due to their negligence.

Wrongful death

Wrongful death is a legal term used to describe a situation where a person's death was caused by the wrongful conduct of another. A wrongful death claim can be started by qualifying surviving family members of the deceased. The loss of a family member due to a wrongful death is devastating. But, your family may be able to receive compensation to help pay for medical bills, funeral expenses, and other damages such as grief and loss of companionship due to the loss of your loved one.
